I had a dream of learning from the best universities in the world. When anyone asks me which University you have the plan to go. I Would simply tell the name of Universities like – Stanford, Yale or Wharton. It fills me with energy. But due to my financial reason, I couldn’t be able to join these.
Then I discovered, Coursera. After researching & spending some time on it, I found it a perfect fit for me. I could now get the learning from the world’s elite university at my home. For me, it was like a dream come true. I can take the admission in any of my dream university.
Coursera, as you might know, is a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course).
There is a problem with any MOOC’s. There is plenty of option to choose from. This might sometime, confuse many people.
So, I thought of why not writing an article & help you in selecting a course that you might interest in.
In this article, I have written all the tips & tricks that I have used myself. These tricks have to help me in saving money & time. I hope this will help you with the same.

I have put a lot of study & time to find these tips. I have used it on myself. They are tried & tested formula.
Below list can guide you through a good course.
1. Coursera Course Rating
This could be great indications of a good course.
Coursera provides star rating in 2 types: –
a. Rating for overall course
This is the rating given to a course in the bundle. This has a total rating the course could have.
The rating is given Out of 5.
This kind of rating is given to the Specialization Course.
b. Rating For Each Course
Coursera also provides a rating to each lesson separately.
This could also be beneficial in checking the course rating lesson wise.
In general, better the rating, better will be course.
But this is not the case every time. There might some courses with high rating & still not a fit for you.
You have to check & consider other factors as well.
2. Coursera University & Institutes
Though Coursera has world’s top university. So, there would be an issue for that university quality.
But some person loves a few universities & just stick to that. Whatever that university has on Coursera, they will take it.
I have done this in the past myself.
So, I have opted for a course from a university & just love that course. I have taken a few more courses from that university. Then I found it that the course is not serving my purpose.
So, I wasted my time & money for that university.
My small piece of advice to you, don’t fall in love with University. Take the courses which are good for you. The courses could be from any university.

3. Coursera Tuition Fees
Course fees or price is a major thing to check.
This could impact a lot on course selection.
For a Specialization Course, the fees are around $39 – $79/Month. The fees depend on Courses & the universities offering the course.
For a Master Degree, the course fees are around $10,000 – $25,000 in total. Again, the pricing depends upon course & university.
Coursera has a Subscription-Based model for Specialization Course. For master degree, the fee is for the whole course.

4. Coursera Instructors
Teachers & Instructors are the backbones of any institute.
You need to check the credentials of instructors as well.
How to check it?
I. Scroll down – Till the instructors don’t show up.
II. You will see the list of instructors for the course.
III. Click on the name of the instructor which you want to check.

Though Coursera has some of the best faculty. But it’s worth taking a look at their credentials.
5. Course Duration
Total No. of hours taken to complete the course could be a good indication.
I personally prefer long duration courses.
In this way, I can learn from beginning to advance level in one course.
You might like a shorter duration course. That’s totally your choice.
I also like the course in which I don’t have to wait longer to get started.
For a few courses on Coursera, it takes weeks for the course to begin. I simply try to ignore the course.
